Cousin-ly notes

Here is an extract from a document on Bedgreave Mill, S.Yorkshire:

"[...] Williamson Glover and Eleanor are recorded as corn millers in the village of Beighton at the 1881 census (See fig 8).  Williamson came from a family of millers.  Brother Joseph had the mill at Halfway and he worked at his cousin Joey's mill at Beighton.  This mill stood near the Railway Inn on Rotherham Road and caught fire in 1897. They had 8 children. [...]"

I thinkthis Joseph may be "cousin Joey" as referenced in this extract from the document. Father Williamson, as found on Josephs birth certificate and IGI christening record, is likely to be Williamson (1801), whose brother is George Glover, whose son was Williamson Glover (1828) - the same Williamson directly referenced in the extract. That would make Williamson (1828) and Joseph (1840) first cousins if true.

But does the reference to "cousin Joey" being Williamsons' cousin mean cousin in the exact modern sense (sharing grandparents, g-g-grandparents, or whatever) or simply just mean that threy were related somehow, maybe by marriage???
